Book Summary

Professional organizer Maggie McDonald manages to balance a fastidious career with friends, family, and a spunky Golden Retriever. But add a fiery murder mystery to the mix, and Maggie wonders if she’s finally found a mess even she can’t tidy up . . .

With a devastating wildfire spreading to Silicon Valley, Maggie preps her family for a rapid evacuation. The heat rises when firefighters discover the body of her best friend Tess Olmos’s athletic husband—whose untimely death was anything but accidental. And as Tess agonizes over the whereabouts of her spouse’s drop-dead gorgeous running mate, she becomes the prime suspect in what’s shaping up to become a double murder case. Determined to set the record straight, Maggie sorts through clues in an investigation more dangerous than the flames approaching her home. But when her own loved ones are threatened, can she catch the meticulous killer before everything falls apart?

“A skillful amateur detective with an impressive to-do list.”

Mary Feliz has lived in five states and two countries but calls Silicon Valley home. Traveling to other areas of the United States, she’s frequently reminded that what seems normal in the high-tech heartland can seem decidedly odd to the rest of the country.

A big fan of irony, serendipity, diversity, and quirky intelligence tempered with gentle humor, she strives to bring these elements into her writing, although her characters tend to take these elements to a whole new level.

She’s a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and the Authors Guild where she feels at home among those plot to kill. She’s also a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers who seem less blood-thirsty and more interested in the skeletons in the closet.

Book Review by Bree Herron

I think this is such a charming series and the latest doesn’t disappoint me. I think this was extremely realistic in this mystery, with the past few years being hosts to wildfires in California. It is easy to see the scene your head, smell the fire and even picture finding a body. I loved that we had lots to focus on in this mystery, questions and answers will pop through your mind quickly as you race to the finish.

Overall, as I was closing in on the end and the murderer I couldn’t help but find myself smiling. I really enjoyed this book and as always Maggie is one of those characters that you just come to love. Plus, the tips at each chapter in this book were helpful for me. I am using a few in my life now! It is always nice to walk away with some new tips and want for the next mystery.
