Book Summary
After horse trainer and rancher Annie Carson visits a feedlot in eastern Washington, she is determined to save as many horses from slaughter as possible before hightailing it back home—until she discovers the sleazy owner seemingly trampled in his corral. With the fate of the feedlot herd in her hands, Annie must navigate unfamiliar territory while trying to track down a killer and solve an increasingly tangled mystery. But unfortunately for Annie, returning to the Olympic Peninsula alive will be trickier than she ever imagined.

Book Review by Bree Herron
Check your saddle, and hold tight to the reins for this equine themed mystery! It was as thrilling as being in the saddle for me to read this book, I have been reading this series from the beginning and have a certain fondness for the horse themed cozy.
Characters
Annie is a horse lover’s dream character. She is smart as whip, and her vast abilities with horses are well done. Annie is also a pleasant sleuth. Each time she has solved a mystery and helped horses. I really love her ability to do this, as if I was to have a sleuth in a mystery there would be horses. Each horse is created into characters as well, I really loved that the author does a brief detail of each when we encounter them.Marcus has been in the books for a bit now, and well Annie goes through a lot for him. It was fun to see her feel girly.
Enjoyable Moments
Though a feedlot is not an enjoyable place to go in my opinion, I felt that it gave this book depth. It was hard to read for this horse lover, I have known many people who have decided that this was a humane way to dispose of their horses. Annie showed readers a perspective on this and it certainly contained our mystery. I felt a new level of like for this author in bringing in a great murder place that also made a reader think.
Synoptic
I haven’t found a horse series to enjoy since The Black Stallion and The Saddle Club. Now as you can guess its been awhile since I reader those horse series, and I am not a disappointed reader with this series. The author has created a marvelous character in Annie, and a passion for readers to dig their spurs into.
Horses? You don’t need to ask me twice to read the book. But would you jump into this series? Share your thoughts!
