Book Summary

A sweet story about a little dog that knows he will always be welcomed home with open arms, no matter what trouble he may get into.

This is a great book to help your children — if they are starting daycare, school, or even university — to reassure them that, no matter what happens, you will always be happy to see them.

Book Review by Bree Herron

I Will Always Be Happy to See You, by Elllen DeLange, was a darling picture book that I found myself tearing up over. As a mother it is hard to always help your child understand that love knows no boundaries. This book showed the tale of a dog, that goes not only on an adventure of sipping tea with a bunny, riding on his owners head blinding her in traffic, showing affection with flowers… from the neighbors, but also ends up with his owner being happy to have him.

I Will Always Be Happy to See You, made me a happy reader! A must share with your family. Click To TweetThe illustrations (Jenny Meilihove) are simple in form allowing for the pictures to help tell the story. Though the illustrations aren’t lacking in detail, such as with the flowers or steam coming from the teapot. Set with the words perfectly, each page delivers a visually pleasing and at times funny image. My daughter enjoyed describing the picture and what she saw (Puppy, flowers, etc.) As a librarian I could easily use this story in a story time theme and know that it would be a hit for parents and children.

I have a toddler, and boy the two year stage is tough!  I was able though to remind myself with this book, that no matter the mess or fits my darling always makes me happy to have her and see her. We have new changes coming and I will certainly use this book to help with the transitions and fear that new places may bring her. If you’re facing new stages with your kiddos, or even need a simple reminding that we can always look on the bright side and be kind. Look no further than this adorable story.
