STOP! DO NOT, unless you want to reconsider all that you planned.
Welcome to parenting, they said, it’s fun ,exciting and you’re always learning something new. And by new I am meaning the fact that the word “poop” can make a child giggle. They said it takes a village to raise a child, well we have left the baby village and are driving head first into the toddler village. I wonder if they serve wine with the reality check?
This village drive should come with exits, pit stops and pull overs. I am toddler kicking and screaming “Where is the potty training fairy?’?” Yes, I said it. I truly feel that this magical time (sarcasm) should have a fairy. Kind of like the tooth fairy, curly haired tiara wearing, wand holding, a real fairy dusting fool. I had dreams, beautiful dreams about this fairy coming to sprinkle her magic dust on V. I dreamt we would wake up one day and POOF! V would be accident and diaper free. Ha,Ha,Ha. Welcome to parenting, where there isn’t a Potty Fairy.
We have been in this village for ONE WEEK! Barely unpacked and already I’m losing my mind to the potty. I dream of the day where she has completed this training. V is smart and loves being a big girl, but the battle of wills over underpants versus pull-ups with my 22 into old gets old. She also has decided that sometimes the floor is the toilet. I didn’t read this in an parenting manual, wait I didn’t get one…
In fact, this village is a quite one home of many trial and error moments, moments of tantrums and cheers, sad faces and ecstatic smiles. I have been thankful to have a child care provider/friend and another mommy friend that have great resumes of training achieved. They both have at least one older child that made it out of this slow moving village. And of course there is God, and he thankfully gave skills to many who can make wine. And that wine can help on the roughest of days, where the training gets the best of you. God, also created this time. He is giving me this growing time, not a magic fairy but a chance to see the magic of growing happen in my little girl. Potty Training may be hell but the moments with V in a bathroom are heaven.
Until next time, be strong and have some faith.~B
Very nicely written Bre T. I always thought we would buy a Bentley when you and Matt were out of diapers! But then there was Nike and OshKosh. Remember the yard sales? You were so much fun at the sales! We love you and V punkin. Dad and Jules
