Tea Time Tuesday

Poisoned Pages

Every Tuesday come join me as I discuss a recent cozy mystery in review and have Goûter (tea time). Readers can enjoy a thoughtful review while sipping on their favorite teas, they may find new teas to love as well. I will be recommending a good tea for each book. Come cozy up with Tea Time Tuesday.

We are back in Booktown where the reading is hot and the murder is chilling. It is never good when you question if your food is going to kill someone. The case for Tricia is set around her and fearing she might get in more hot water than she can, Tricia must come up with a plan. The only way to know if it was Tricia’s food is to find the real killer.

I always enjoy visiting this charming town and its host of delightful characters. Wishing that I was in the pages of this book, I finished it and was ready for more.

Book Summary

Mystery bookstore owner Tricia Miles learns that nothing kills a good party like a murder in the latest entry in the New York Times bestselling Booktown Mysteries.

Tricia Miles, mystery bookstore owner and amateur sleuth, throws a housewarming cocktail party in her new apartment and has cooked all the food by herself–quite a feat for someone who previously couldn’t boil water. Then one of her guests is poisoned and dies. Tricia’s left to wonder if her cooking is to blame or if there’s something much more sinister at play. Either way, Tricia’s once again in hot water with her ex-lover, Chief Baker.

Meanwhile the charming town of Stoneham is being disrupted by a vandalism crime wave. It’s the hot topic in the race for Chamber of Commerce president which sees Tricia pitted against two bitter rivals. With all that’s going on can she find the killer before she’s the next item on the menu?

The immensely popular Booktown Mystery series is what put Lorraine Bartlett’s pen name Lorna Barrett on the New York Times Bestseller list, but it’s her talent -- whether writing as Lorna, or L.L. Bartlett, or Lorraine Bartlett -- that keeps her there. This multi-published, Agatha-nominated author pens the exciting Jeff Resnick Mysteries as well as the acclaimed Victoria Square Mystery series, and now the Tales of Telenia fantasy saga, and has many short stories and novellas to her name(s).  She lives in Rochester, NY, with her husband and three cats.

Book Review by Bree Herron

Welcome back to Stoneham! It seems to always have some kind of action or event each time we visit. But that is a charming little village for you. There is a lot going on this book and it will certainly be one that you will read more than once. Tricia is as wonderful as ever and will certainly be working hard to solve this mystery. What lies within these pages will keep you up and begging for more!

Characters

One point of the characters in this book is the ability to deceive even the reader. Tricia is on par, but there is some secrets and lies that are making characters become something else. That is something about this series that keeps me coming back, the characters evolve and grow, changing just like true humans do.

Enjoyable Moments

I am usually not a fan of the book ending, but this ending was great. It was unexpected and one that kept me guessing. I say that with many mysteries, this one though will throw you for a loop, truly.

Synoptic

Overall, another excellent addition to a favorite series. One will always find their spot in this charming community and solving these mysteries adds an extra delight. I encourage mystery lovers to read this latest installment, for the it is by far one of the best this year.

What makes a charming character to me is one that is believable, one that has qualities that we can relate to and who is also flawed because no one is perfect.

Thanks for the review on “POISONED PAGES” by Lorna Barrett and the chance to win a copy of the book – which I would love to read.
