The writing bug bit Kristen Ethridge around the time she first held a pencil. A 2012 Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award Finalist, Kristen was offered her first contract to Harlequin’s Love Inspired line through their So You Think You Can Write contest that same year.
Kristen writes contemporary inspirational romance filled with love, laughter, and happily ever after and firmly believes that the best happily ever after is the story of God’s love. Although she has fun creating characters, Kristen’s favorite people are her family. She lives in Texas with her husband, children and a self-important poodle.

When you are plotting a story line what are your thought process? God’s love, characters, location and/ or what do I want people to learn about my God.
When I’m thinking about a book, it’s the characters that speak to me first. Honestly, I don’t try to fit one thing or another in. I try to tell the story that needs to be told. I only have a very loose idea of the plot, and then the characters tell me where to go.
Which character is your favorite?
Oh goodness, I don’t think I could choose! That would be like picking a favorite child! I’d like to plead the fifth and say Cookie and Polly from Shelter from the Storm.
Truthfully, I really love Anneliese in His Texas Princess, and how she finds her voice. She’s supposed to have everything, but doesn’t even really know who she is.
As far as heroes, probably Dr. Pete Shipley in The Doctor’s Unexpected Family. He just rolls up his sleeves and gets the job done…but then he makes a stupid mistake along the way, like we all do from time to time, and has to humble himself to find forgiveness and to find contentment in a path he never saw himself taking.
I love faith inspired stories. Have you ever had a story line that really challenged you? Something really difficult to write about or something it would take true faith to overcome?
This whole series–the Port Provident: Hurricane Hope series–was inspired by my living through and recovering from 2008’s Hurricane Ike. Do you ever have a set amount of books in a series and then have some minor characters that demand their own story? In that case, do you rethink the other books (presuming the series hasn’t been completed), or just make the planned series longer?
