Book Summary

Duty Brought Them TogetherWill Secrets Destroy Their Love?

American Emma Hanson came to England to study at Oxford, but joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force at the height of World War II. She is stationed at beautiful and historic Danesfield House west of London as part of the highly secretive Photographic Reconnaissance Unit.

Englishman Will Fleming is a handsome young artist who has been commissioned by the British government to record the changing landscape in paintings. His path intersects with Emma’s when his real mission–tracking Nazi spies–leads him to Danesfield House, the target of a sinister plot.

Emma and Will become friends, but neither can reveal the true nature of their assignment. Can their relationship grow amid such secrecy? And can Will save Danesfield House–and Emma and her coworkers–before it’s too late?

Book Review by Bree Herron

Your mission is to help save the world, that is currently at war. You have the job of searching pictures of land for signs of activity. Another is set to be a mysterious character, you meet, and you fall. How would you want your story to end?

Emma (I love this name) is just the character for the job in this book. She is spunky and full of drive to save the nations at war. I love that she is an American in Britain, coming from the states, was not an easy choice but Emma has been feeling success on her duties abroad. I found the idea of an American female over there working intriguing- not that it didn’t happen, just hadn’t read such a scenario before. just is the definition of a charming character. Will is a man of mystery, well now that is what he wants the readers to believe but really I think he is a softy, with a heart only for Emma. He really makes a great love interest.

I love WWII this is the most fascinating time period to me, and the strength of the research, quality of writing made this book a marathon read for me. I didn’t sleep, I couldn’t. I needed to know what was coming next. A book that will keep you truly wanting more, this book was exactly what my 2017 reading shelf needed. The behind the page scenes must be fascinating and I am high-fiving Tricia on her outstanding job. It is ended now and I am unsure of where to go next, I have books to read but I feel empty having finished Emma and Will’s story. Tricia, I am starving for more!

I think it’s an example of a lot of what love is – working through and surviving whatever life has to throw at you while coming through the other end together – stronger than ever.

Love this era. I think a lot of trust comes in war romances. Finding the confidence to give your heart when all is not safe and comfortable.
